BOOGIE MAN RECORDS
SOME HISTORY, SOME PHILOSOPHY....
Boogie Man records was founded in late summer 1999 by us, the LTJ
Warriors. As we have just thrown our second release into this unsuspecting
world, there is not really too much sensible to say/write about Boogie
Man Records.
We started it as a platform for a kind of Jungle that has more or less
disappeared. You won't find any screaming analogue basslines on here,
this is just pure party-feelgood stuff.
It's kinda hard to establish Jungle/Drum'n'Bass in a place where it's
more or less unknown to the masses. It's even harder to accomplish this,
when you bear in mind, that these people have no idea whatsoever about
the history of this music. You simply cannot draw people who haven't heard
D'n'B before towards it by murdering them with Andy C and Optical for
hours and hours. However, it has to be said that we personally regard
Andy C and Optical as simply stunning producers and that we love their
stuff. This isn't about slagging them off, but about making people understand
what the producers of today are actually doing.
While a lot of people try to bring the UK-scene to their doorstep, we
believe in creating our own. To do that, you need people that jump to
the ceiling and go completely bloody nuts to the music. Secondly you need
a fair amount of girls, 'cause without "dem gals" one has to admit, that
the game looses a lot of it's tense and excitement. Now, to come to the
point, girls like music that's kind of..... well...sexy! Judging from
the stuff we receive from the Island, the music has lost about 50% of
it's sex...... Personally I don't give a flying fuck, 'cause I love it
when everything shatters in total Amen-Reese-devastation.
The problem is, once two or three geezers have come up with a High-Impact-Beat-Monster,
the whole scene follows the leader and after two months, that's all you
will get until Shy FX hops along and goes: "hey, let's use some bongos".
Henceforth you'll hear six new releases using bongos!!!! This way, the
incredible variety wich lies in Drum'n'Bass goes down the friggin' drain....
As I said, there isn't much to say about Boogie Man, but I've just seen
that there seems a lot you can say about D'n'B (or however you may call
it). Boogie Man is meant to be fun, nothing more and nothing less! Forgive
my philosophical outburst, but I believe that ideas are there to be said.
Outmost respect goes out to Danny Bukem, Rebel MC and the Reinforced
massive.
